Today we will look at a man named Ishbosheth, Saul’s last son to the throne. In our text he is caught sleeping in the middle of the day. It wasn’t uncommon to take naps, but as king, he should have been more alert and more guarded. The attack came from within, in other words, it was his own people who will end up killing him. I believe there is a great lesson here for us. The bible says to be sober and vigilant for your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. We need to be awake spiritually, Romans 13:11, 1st Thessalonians 5:5-6. And just because a teacher of the bible says he’s a Christian doesn’t mean that it will be sound teaching. 1st John 4 says to test the spirits to see if they are from God. How? By studying the word. Even though these men kill an innocent man while sleeping, David will not let them get away with it. Just as our Lord will not let these false teachers and liars get away with what they do. Our lesson is in 2nd Samuel 4.
