Our devotion on this Thursday is called, ” Evil company corrupts good manners.” Proverbs Chapter 23 verses 19 through 21 says Hear, my son, and be wise; And guide your heart in the way. Do not mix with wine bibbers, or with gluttonous eaters of meat; For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. I guess you could say do not hang around with partiers that like to get drunk and go out at two in the morning at a restaurant and eat cheeseburgers. You might say well what’s wrong with that? Well first of all the Bible says to be not drunk with Wine or anything else, Ephesians chapter 5 verse 18. Plus most crimes happen in the early hours of the morning. It is not wise to be out at those hours especially drunk. And God’s Word always gives us wisdom to protect us whether it’s from bad food or bad behavior or whatever. God’s word protects us and gives us wisdom. Evil company corrupts good manners is found in 1st Corinthians chapter 15 and verse 33. And even though the Lord is speaking to a church this particular church was not walking right with the Lord and needed this type of instruction. Maybe today you need this type of instruction. Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote the song Simple Man years ago and the lyrics go like this, Mamma told me when I was young, come sit beside me, my only son, and listen closely to what I say, and if you do this it’ll help you some sunny day. Some of us that are reading this have godly mothers and fathers that have instructed us in the right way and some of us need to get back to that way. God is willing, are you? Please continue to pray for my family especially my daughter Melanie and Jereck’s Mom Fran.
