Our devotion is called, ” Haughty, Proud, and plowing ” Proverbs chapter 21 and verse 4 says, A haughty look, a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked are sin. You might say well what’s wrong with being proud? First Peter chapter 5 and verse 5 says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. So if there’s one thing that’s wrong with being prideful it’s that God resists that person. It would seem that these three go together, a haughty look, a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked which are sin. This is a picture of self righteousness! A person that walks with their head high and their chest out and thinks they have done no wrong. And when our mind and heart become like that we distance ourselves from a holy God because the God we serve describes himself as meek and humble in Matthew Chapter 11 verses 29 through 31. I believe most people would agree that the description here in Proverbs 21 is something that none of us want to be. So to not be that way we must recognize that God is great and we’re not. We must recognize that any good thing that I have comes from God Almighty. And that apart from Him I am wretched, blind, poor of spirit, and lost. The word plowing also means a lamp and it can be said that they are letting their own light shine on how good they are instead of how good God is. Let’s not do that, Let’s let our light shine and show how good God is and how much we need him!
