Our devotion on this Wednesday is called, ” Is pride really that bad? “. Proverbs chapter 16 verse 18 says, pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Years ago when I was a new believer a friend of mine came to church and as he walked through the church the pastor I was talking to looked at me and said that guy walked through here like he owned the place. That guy ended up going to prison for life which is such a sad thing because he was actually a pretty good guy. But that’s what Pride will do for you. In first Peter chapter 5 and verse 5 it says God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble, James 4:6 says the same thing. If God looks at pride like this, so should we! in our lives. When we see pride raise its ugly head which says, I’m better or I’m good or I’m great We should really back away from that and realize anything that we have is a gift from God. So is Pride really that bad? Yes it is! It is listed with a bunch of really bad things in Mark Chapter 7 verses 20 through 23 and I will close with what Jesus said. Jesus said, what comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, Blasphemy, Pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man. Pride is mentioned in the midst of all this sin so yes it’s really that bad! Stay away from pride!
